    Bulletin Board

    Quote of the Week basics
    from Bob Avakian

"There is nothing more unrealistic than the idea of reforming this system into something that would come anywhere near being in the interests of the great majority of people and ultimately of humanity as a whole."

    Hawai`i Book & Music Festival

"The Revolution Books booth at the Hawai`i Book & Music Festival this past weekend was a great success!  We spoke with hundreds of people about books, events in the world, and the need to build a movement for revolution.  A rich back and forth exchange with people holding a great diversity of opinions and ideas was tremendously invigorating.   Such an outpouring of interest and support underscored our determination to meet the substantial challenges facing us as we struggle to not only keep our doors open, but to expand our stock and programming.

We invite everyone we spoke with this weekend to visit the store, e-mail us your book suggestions (with your opinion as to why we should carry the book), and continue the conversation.  To those of you who didn't make the Festival, we hope you'll join  the conversation and contribute to making Revolution Books a place that is alive with a defiant spirit that refuses to accept the horrors of the world as they exist today and where people wrangle and debate the path to a much better future."

Fuel your fire at Revolution Books

"Revolution Books is a little gem of an independent bookstore, one that operates in order to forward its principles rather than to turn a profit. The store has moved eight times since it opened its doors in 1976 and has been in its current Moiliili location, behind the 7-11 next to Puck’s Alley, for the past five years. It relies on the dedication of its all-volunteer staff, as well as donations from its supporters."

Inexpensive editions of Marxist Classics just arrived!

We recently received several boxes of Marxist Classics from a warehouse on the mainland. These are original editions published by Foreign Languages Press and are largely unavailable. They are inexpensive and in good condition. For example: "Materialism and Empirio-Criticism" at $3; Mao TseTung's "Five Essays on Philosophy" at $1.00; "Lenin on War and Peace" at $1.00; "Selected Works by Mao Tsetung" @ $5/each; Lenin's "Two Tactics of Social Democracy in the Democratic Revolution" @ $2.00 and more.

    "Good News on Tunisia"

As this is being written the protests in Egypt are raging, the Egyptian government is being asked to step down, and Barack Obama has been forced to speak to what's happening. Ten Days ago The World to Win news service posted an article on Tunisia that's closely related to what's unfolding in Egypt. It's been posted to the Revolution newspaper on-line edition at: Tunisia analysis.

    Bring us your used books!

One of the ways Revolution Books raises money for the rent is through the sale of used books. We sell them cheap ($1-$2) and many people come in to peruse the selection. While the amount we realize from the sale of each book is small, the sale of used books is a significant addition to our income each month.

NGUGI WA THIONG`O, commenting on Revolution Books NYC: "I think what's so beautiful and wonderful about Revolution Books is that even when you close your eyes and go to any of the shelves here and pick any one of the books, it is likely that it will contain the kind of dreams that Martin Carter was talking about when he said, 'And so if you see me looking in your hand, listening when you speak, marching in your ranks, you must know, 'I do not sleep to dream, but dream to change the world.' "
